Alfonso Cuarón helped to prove that science fiction thrillers could be art with Children of Men — now Warner Bros. is betting he’ll do it a second time, with the space thriller Gravity. Warners chose Cuarón’s movie as one of a handful to get released in the sweet spot for movie releases looking for a big Oscar push. The movie, which stars George Clooney and Sandra Bullock, will open on Nov. 12, 2012. Perhaps 2012 will be the year that science fiction doesn’t get snubbed at the Oscars?
