Another Japanese Robot

Well, the Japanese certainly love their humanoids. And though the HRP-2 Promet reminds me a little too much of an uncomfortably constipated Boba Fett, at about 61 inches and the ability to turn your TV on and off, I’m going to assume it’s a lot more fun. The HRP-2 reacts to voice commands such as “get juice from the fridge, which could very easily turn into a request for an alcoholic beverage if you play your cards right. This particular robot is currently under development by the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology, and as well as performing chores, it can also capture three-dimensional images, allowing it to navigate through rooms and other novel environments.
