Romanian IP Address: How to Get One in 2026

Connecting to Bucharest barely slowed our connection. In our October tests from Europe, NordVPN‘s Romanian server measured 182.41 Mbps, ahead of Proton VPN at 179.35 Mbps and ExpressVPN at 179.12 Mbps. Whatismyipaddress.com placed every connection in Bucharest, and the ISP field named three different hosting companies. Romania is also on Windscribe’s free plan, and its free Bucharest server measured 181.10 Mbps.

Bucharest Speed and IP Lookup Results

With each VPN connected on our Windows 11 PC, we set Speedtest to a Bucharest test server and noted the ISP name on whatismyipaddress.com. Our baseline without a VPN was 190.36 Mbps for downloads and 19.37 Mbps for uploads. Downloads came within 6% of our baseline, and uploads stayed above 18 Mbps on each VPN. Whatismyipaddress reported no IPv6 address for any VPN.

On the Romania #76 server, NordVPN downloaded at 182.41 Mbps, a 4.2% loss. Its idle ping, 42 ms, was the highest in our Bucharest results. 2. Proton VPN: Best for Bucharest Server Choice

Proton VPN lists 225 servers in Bucharest. The app shows no Smart routing badge on them, which means they’re located in Romania. The Bucharest – RO#178 server we used showed 9% load and measured 179.35 Mbps on WireGuard, with a 36 ms ping. The whatismyipaddress lookup listed the IP address under PV SL Hosted Bucharest, but Speedtest identified the host as ProtonVPN.

3. ExpressVPN: Best for Low Ping in Romania

ExpressVPN had the lowest ping we measured in Bucharest, 30 ms, and downloaded at 179.12 Mbps. The protocol stayed on Automatic, and the app required no setup. Romania is one location in the app, with no way to pick a particular Bucharest server. Bought for 28 months, the Basic plan costs less than $3 a month.

Romania on Free VPNs

Several free VPNs include Romania, but only one lets you choose it:

• Windscribe: its free plan includes Bucharest, and the server measured 181.10 Mbps in our tests. Data is limited to 10 GB a month with a confirmed email address, or 2 GB without one.
• Proton VPN: Romania is one of ten countries on the free plan, with unlimited data, but the app assigns the country. Our connections went to the Netherlands, the US, and Japan. Each new switch required a 45-second wait at first, then 10 minutes after four or five attempts, which made repeated tries annoying.
