Anthropic announced on Tuesday that its Claude Fable 5 model could once again be released to the public after an export control directive had forced it offline on June 12.

Users will be able to access Fable 5 again on Wednesday, July 1, according to an X post from Anthropic. Controls on the more exclusive Mythos 5 were eased on June 26.

Fable 5 was part of the Mythos class of Anthropic AI models, announced in April as not only a world-class cybersecurity tool, but potentially a super-weapon in the hands of hackers seeking to cause harm. The Mythos model family was initially only available to a select group of partner organizations. It caused widespread fear among governments and other major institutions concerned about vulnerability to cyberattacks.

Fable 5 was intended to be a consumer-ready version of Mythos, with some of its more concerning capabilities toned down. However, about three days after it was released, Anthropic announced that it had to be taken offline after the Trump Administration issued its export controls, citing reports that Fable 5’s safeguards could be easily bypassed. Anthropic has been in negotiations with the Trump Administration ever since.

Over the past week or so, those negotiations have reportedly improved, which apparently culminated in the lifting of the controls on Tuesday night, and the restoration of access to the model scheduled for Wednesday.
