As one DC Studios project finally comes to life, two others just suffered a significant setback. Way back in 2023, when James Gunn and Peter Safran first took over DC Studios, the pair announced a 10-project plan. To date, three of those projects—Superman, Supergirl, and Creature Commandos—have seen the light of day. The next comes this weekend with the live-action TV show Lanterns. Two others that were part of that group were the Suicide Squad spinoff show called Waller and a Wonder Woman-themed show called Paradise Lost, but we just learned that they are no longer in active development.
The Ankler first reported that the two shows are no longer happening. Entertainment Weekly then added the wrinkle that while the shows are no longer in development, each could potentially come back to life at some point.
Will that happen, though, considering DC is moving ahead with new movies and shows? It seems less than likely. Gunn himself is currently working on Man of Tomorrow, a sequel to both Supergirl and Superman that is starting to tie together various parts of their growing DC Universe. There are also Superman spinoff shows in the works based on characters like Jimmy Olsen and Mister Terrific. So as that corner of the DC Universe becomes the focus, other areas start to take a backseat. It makes sense.
Out of the 10 original projects Gunn and Safran originally announced, four have happened (Superman, Supergirl, Lanterns, Creature Commandos), and now three are more or less off the table (The Authority, Waller, and Paradise Lost). That leaves Booster Gold, which, according to the Ankler report, is still in development, Swamp Thing, and The Brave and the Bold. There hasn’t been a ton of movement on those two of late (especially with another Matt Reeves Batman coming), but we’d bet they happen eventually.
