Dell announced two Precision Mobile Workstations, the M90 and M65, both aimed at video editors and animators, or anybody else who might want a screamin' fast high-end laptop. Both are packing Intel Core Duo processors inside, starting with the 1.66GHz T2300 and moving up to the fastest Core Duo available yet, the T2600 at 2.16GHz.
Flagship of the line is the M90, an 8-pounder with a 17-inch 1920x1200 widescreen and available with workstation-class NVIDIA Quadro FX 2500M Open GL graphics with 512MB of graphics memory. Opt for the 100-gig 7200RPM drive and you're set for video editing or animation on a park bench somewhere. Dell slipped us a pre-production M90 for our perusal, and we're here to say that this is one screaming machine, flying through every benchmark we threw at it. We also like its gleaming burnished aluminum topside, reminding us of a shiny, bulletproof aircraft. Pricing on the M90 starts at $2239 for the 1.66GHz model.
Taking the place of Dell's Precision M70 laptop is the M65 with a 15.4-inch screen, offering similar power to its predecessor but shedding a pound of weight. Pricing on that unit starts at $1849. Both the M90 and M65 are available for order today on Dell's website, and will be shipped in the next few days.
