The good news is, there will be a sequel to Doctor Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog. The bad news is, it won't be available for free online. According to Neil Patrick Harris, Dr. Horrible 2 will be a major motion picture.

Talking to MTV, Harris said,

Apparently they're making a 'Dr. Horrible' sequel - a feature film... I don't know of what scale. They're talking all options, because they made the first 'Dr. Horrible' in five days on no budget at all - that was its intention. You don't want to necessarily make the feature film be an $80 million giant movie, because it defeats the purpose of what the first film was made to be [but] then again, you don't want it to be so low-brow that it's not worth paying money to see as a movie.

We're torn about this news. On the one hand, larger scale Horrible could definitely be fun (If nothing else, think of the potential for bigger musical numbers!), but we'd be lying if we didn't admit that the loss of the independent, forward-thinking nature of distribution doesn't feel important in some way, as well. What do you think?

Wow. So much pessimism. Everyone forget "Serenity" already? Joss knows how to make a movie that retains all of the charm of the original while also taking it to new places.

I loved watching the original online, and I agree that it's unprecedented mode of distribution was a big part of it's charm. But I also would love to see a new big-screen version. To me it's just expanding an already-great thing into another medium. It's no different than when they made it into a comic.

Seriously, does anyone think Joss would even entertain this idea if he thought he wasn't going to have the kind of control he had over "Serenity"?
