Fin Whales Produce An Impressive Amount of Pee

Fact: Fin whales produce an average of 974 liters of urine each day. Let’s put this in perspective. That’s 487 2-liter bottles of Coke. If you had that much gas (257 gallons) you could completely fill twenty 2014 Ford Focuses, and still have a bit leftover.

According to the National Institutes of Health, the average human pees between 800 and 2000 milliliters every twenty-four hours. Assuming that you peed the full 2000 milliliters each day, it would take you from today until July 25, 2015 – 487 days! – to produce the same quantity of urine that the average Fin whale peed today alone. (When you realize that a newborn Fin whale weighs some 4000 pounds, suddenly it seems quite reasonable…)
