For a brief shining moment, both the X-Men franchise (owned by Fox) and the Marvel’s cinematic universe (owned by Disney) had Quicksilvers in their movies. But, tragically, there ended up being only room for one of them.

Speaking to Yahoo, Evan Peters, the surviving Quicksilver, mourned the loss of his Marvel compatriot:

I was devastated by it. I really wanted that to keep going. I thought it was cool. I don’t really know why they killed him off.

I liked what they did with it. It was different. It was a completely different take on it. He had the Russian accent. I mean, they had this swoopy thing with the lines behind, which I thought was really cool, and I don’t know. I thought it was a cool character.

Peters went on to say that he wished they’d kept both of them around, since the competition to top each other would have been motivating. Now Marvel’s got Scarlet Witch while Fox’s has her brother Quicksilver. Siblings, separated by licensing deals.Tragic!
