Fujifilm gives us a long lead time on its S5 Pro, a DSLR with a 6.17- megapixel CCD that the company has enhanced with what it calls "Super CCD double pixel technology," giving it a claimed 12.34 effective megapixels. Is that anything like double secret probation? Let's just call it a 6.17-megapixel camera until proven otherwise.

The S5 Pro's design takes a few obvious cues from the posh Nikon D200, and even uses the Nikon F-mount to let you use all those great Nikkor lenses. Plus, there are some of the latest whistles and bells such as face recognition and an 11-point autofocus system. We wish its 2.5-inch viewscreen were larger—shouldn't 3 inches be a minimum? But everybody knows the real pros don't use those viewscreeens, anyway. Yeah, right.

Fujifilm says we won't be seeing the S5 Pro until "early 2007," and isn't telling us how much it will cost yet.
