Purple Rain turns 30 today. That means two things. One: You should go watch the movie right now—twice in a row if you can swing it. Two: Put that soundtrack on repeat—stat.
Good luck finding either of those things free on the internet, though. Prince is famously antagonistic towards bloggers and has apparently done a very terrific job of policing sites like YouTube to ensure that no unauthorized reproductions of his songs can be found. Covers, on the other hand, are fair game. Our favorite from the magical 1984 work of art known as Purple Rain is Ginuwine’s 1996 rendition of “When Doves Cry.” Try to hold your tears ’til the end.
