Give T-Mobile 15 Minutes to Switch and They’ll Give You Up to $800 to Pay Off Your Phone

Break free from your current provider's installment plan and bring your phone to T-Mobile for a fresh start.

Locked in does not always mean locked in. If you’ve been putting off switching cellular carriers because you’re still paying off your phone, T-Mobile just removed that excuse. Switch to T-Mobile from AT&T, Verizon, or another eligible postpaid carrier, and T-Mobile will pay off your remaining device balance — up to $800 per line for up to 4 lines — via virtual prepaid Mastercard. The entire checkout process takes 15 minutes or less per line online or through the T-Life app.

The barrier most people cite for staying on a carrier they’re unhappy with isn’t the plan, it’s the phone. If you’re 18 months into a 36-month installment plan, walking away means absorbing hundreds of dollars in remaining payments before you can make a clean break. The Keep & Switch offer eliminates that calculation. Bring your phone, port your number, and T-Mobile covers up tp $800 of the payoff on your current device balance so you’re not stuck waiting out a contract that’s keeping you somewhere you’d rather leave.

How It Works

The process is simple. Switch online or through the T-Life app, and T-Mobile says checkout takes 15 minutes or less per line, with device activation, data transfer, and number transfer requiring additional time after that. After porting in, submit proof of your remaining device balance and 90-plus days of good standing with your current carrier within 30 days.

T-Mobile processes the virtual prepaid Mastercard typically within 15 days, and that covers your eligible phone payoff up to $800. The offer applies to up to four lines, so families switching together can stack the savings across the entire account.

Best Mobile Network in the U.S.

T-Mobile runs on what Ookla’s Speedtest Intelligence data named the Best Mobile Network in the U.S. for the second half of 2025, meaning the network you’re switching to isn’t a step down from what you’re leaving. For anyone who’s been on the fence about making the move, the combination of a 15-minute checkout and up to $800 back on your current phone makes the decision considerably easier.

Eligible carriers include AT&T, Verizon, Spectrum, Claro, Liberty, Xfinity, UScellular, Cox, Carolina Wireless, and C Spire. The virtual prepaid card expires in six months and works anywhere Mastercard debit is accepted. There’s no cash access, but it’s usable for the device payoff or any other purchase.
