It’s the end, and the moment almost certainly seems like it hasn’t entirely been prepared for. Whether that’s talking about the arrival of the End Times in Good Omens‘ third and final “season”, or the massive redevelopment the show went under in 2024 in the wake of co-creator Neil Gaiman facing a series of sexual harassment allegations, is up to your discernment—but either way, Amazon is now ready for Good Omens to come to an unfortunate end.
This morning Prime Video released the first trailer for Good Omens season 3: in actuality, not a season of TV, but a 90-minute special. Set as Heaven prepares to announce the Second Coming on Earth, the finale will see Michael Sheen and David Tennant’s angel-demon duo Aziraphale and Crowley team up one last time to try and save humanity from the coming doom… and also maybe help find Jesus (Bilal Hasna), who is one of several things that has managed to slip out of Heaven’s incompetent bureaucracy in all the cataclysmic excitement.
Whether or not it’s an end any Good Omens fan still reckoning with their relationship to the series—and the book that inspired it—actually wants in the wake of the allegations against Neil Gaiman, remains to be seen. Gaiman’s swift departure from production—after his crucial involvement with the series up to that point—on what was originally a full third season came in late 2024, with the writer-producer offering to step back after a series of sexual harassment allegations against him were raised in the Tortoise Media podcast series Master: The Allegations Against Neil Gaiman, as well as a separate investigation by Rolling Stone, in the summer of that year.
Production was resumed after a delay to rework the season into a 90-minute single episode in October 2024, although Prime Video remained silent about the series and Gaiman’s departure from it since its initial confirmation, leaving audiences and even the series’ co-stars in limbo for a year and a half.
Although Good Omens was not the only project impacted by the allegations against Gaiman (Netflix announced the cancelation of The Sandman in early 2025, although insisted a two-season run was always its plan, and several other in-development projects at various studios were reported to either be paused or scrapped), it’s perhaps the one that has had to deal with the most lingering awkwardness of its connection to the writer. Earlier this year Prime Video announced release date for Good Omens‘ final season just 10 days after Gaiman re-emerged to publicly deny the allegations against him (while promoting a new book he had worked on in the interim).
Whether or not Gaiman ultimately directly worked on the final episode, the impact of the allegations against him will still linger when it arrives on Prime Video May 13—no matter how much they want you to focus on letting the end times roll.
