Organic! Local! Grass-fed! Fanned with palm fronds! All those terms used to describe food usually mean diddly squat to me because I’m a simpleton eater. If it tastes good, it is good. But athletes—people who need to care about their body—are starting to get into eating grass-fed beef craze because of the health benefits.

The National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) contends that grain-fed beef is just as good as grass-fed beef but athletes are starting to think different. They believe that cows who are fed grass (which is low in starch and high in proteins) vs grain, result in better beef. And it apparently is! Grass-fed beef is higher in Omega-3 fatty acids and has an increased amount of CLA, which helps reduce body fat.

Athletes who’ve switched over say their joints feel a lot better and some NFL teams have even started to order grass-fed beef to feed their team, so I guess the professionals think it makes a difference! I’m going to start demanding grass-fed beefs from now on, as I need to keep my fingers in shape for typing. [CNBC]
