2015 is upon us, and that means the deluge of money falling out of Star Wars fan's pockets will begin this year as Hot Toys' line of figures starts coming out - and they're being headlined by the most gorgeous figure of the Dark Lord of the Sith himself, Darth Vader.

Vader is the fourth-revealed 1/6th-scale figure in the Star Wars line due out this year, and like Han, Chewie and the Stormtrooper, he cuts an incredible looking figure in this scale. Based specifically on Vader's appearance in A New Hope, the 35cm figure just looks remarkable:

Homina-homina-homina.

Vader actually comes with a lot of cool little extras too. Aside from the hojillion alternate hands (okay, 9) to pose him, and the customary stand, he also comes with both a plain lightsaber hilt and an 'ignited' blade to attach to the hilt, filled with LEDs to make it light up - not the coolest Vader saber we've seen recently, but it's up there! The electronics don't stop there either, as Vader's chest piece actually plays the sound of him breathing when you press it too. As someone who really does not have the funds to collect Hot Toys figures, I don't know if this is a first for them, but it's a cool way of integrating one of Vader's most iconic aspects into the figure as well. And on top of that, there's the nifty inclusion of the Interrogation droid too (although it's not viewable as it's still pending licensor approval. I'm sure the estate of Doctor Ball is just playing, err... hardball.).

Vader is due for release in September, and is currently available for pre-order on Sideshow Collectibles for $300 - You hear that noise? It is as if millions of wallets suddenly cried out in terror, and were suddenly silenced.

This is pretty amazing.

Looking at it, I can't help but chuckle at Lucas' decision to put some "analog" switches and buttons on his chestplate - they seem a bit incongruous given all of the amazing technology that was presumably deployed to reconstruct Anakin into a Sith Lord, and the technology we see used elsewhere in the SW films. What functions are these buttons and switches supposed to control? and what happens to Darth if some intrepid Stormtrooper sneaks up on him and flips one of the switches?! :)

Happy new year, IO9! Looking forward to another year of awesome posts that continue to re-affirm my obsession with this website!
