Thanks to her performance as Nikki in Obsession, Inde Navarrette has become a household name. She’ll soon host Saturday Night Live—the Halloween episode, no less—and will star as Rogue in Marvel’s much-anticipated X-Men movie, coming in May 2028. She’s also a likely best actress contender once Hollywood ramps up its awards season in the coming months. And she’s enthusiastic about the idea of continuing Nikki’s journey in the event that Curry Barker pulls the trigger on Obsession 2.
In an on-stage interview with the Hollywood Reporter as part of the outlet’s Awards Chatter podcast, Navarrette shared her enthusiasm for diving back into Nikki’s very troubled life. Sure, the spell was broken at the end of the movie, but Nikki regaining control of her true self wasn’t exactly a happy ending. The One Wish Willow’s terrible curse left a pile of carnage in its wake, which is surely going to attract the attention of law enforcement. And on top of her sticky legal problems, Nikki will have to come to terms with the emotional fallout of everything she was just forced to go through.
“I would totally be open to doing a sequel,” Navarrette said. “Are you kidding me? Who am I to say no? And what is she doing afterwards? I think the non-pretty answer, which I think is more important to give sometimes than kind of just giggling through answers, is she’s starting a grief process. When things happen that are completely out of our control, like losing a loved one, losing a parent, losing autonomy, having an experience that wasn’t your fault, it’s very difficult to understand anything. She’s just starting the grief process.”
Beyond that, Navarrette revealed a surprisingly level-headed vision for her future career path. Yes, she’ll soon be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but it sounds like she’s still going to be very careful with her choices, especially since she’s now in the unique position of being very highly in demand.
“I think the future is looking like really hunkering down because I’m in a very specific opportunity in my career where I can kind of make it last as long as humanly possible or throw it all away,” she said. “I really want to be specific with the next couple of my decisions to really solidify what I want to do in this industry. And what I want to do is play characters that are people and grounded and really thought-through.”
