This week was the 3D Entertainment Summit in Los Angeles, a large industry shindig that draws corporate types together with creatives to talk about the future of 3D technology in movies, games, and more. According to a release about the conference, not everybody there was happy about 3D:

But there were also words of caution, eloquently expressed by writer/director M. Night Shyamalan in a special keynote interview with conference chairman Bob Dowling. Shyamalan, a self-described non-techie, said he was wary that audiences’ expectations of 3D films will force filmmakers to compromise “story-telling integrity” for eye-catching special effects. “3D is like candy,” said Shyamalan, “and I’m afraid if we don’t give the audience lots of 3D candy they’ll be disappointed.”

Really, M. Night? Sounds like you’re trying to say that certain 3D movies – like, say, Last Airbender – were somehow forced into suckage by all that 3D candy. Way to pass the buck, guy.
