In The Day of the Doctor, the Doctor relived his darkest day. Now you
can relive the Doctor reliving his darkest day by buying The Day of the Doctor tomorrow, which for Doctor Who fans shouldn’t be a dark day at all. Plus Futurama, Teen Wolf, Keanu Reeves, and more!
• Doctor
Who: The Day of the Doctor
You saw it! You were mildly let
down by it! But now you can own it on Blu-ray and/or DVD, and get both the
mini-sodes, a look behind-the-scenes of the special, and a “Doctor Who Explained” featurette.
The feature-length commercial for
little yellow minion merchandise returns with three shorts and an impressive
bevy of special features.
• Mary
Poppins 50th Anniversary Edition
Rewatch the beloved Disney classic
so you can feel extra-awkward about how much Mary Poppins author P.L. Travers fucking hated it ,despite whatever Saving Mr. Banks says.
The final season, and easily the
best of the relaunched series. Of course, that still means it was pretty
erratic, but I’ll take mediocre Scruffy over no Scruffy at all. And hey, the
Fry-Leela thing kind of ended all right!
So… apparently this show turned
really good at some point, or at least gained a rabid fanbase, because the
Amazon reviews are insane. Anyone care to explain?
• Fairy
Tail: Phoenix Priestess
Either Amazon accidentally
switched this anime movie’s list of special features with Shout Factory’s Fall of the House of Usher special
edition, or the anime studio behind Fairy
Tail really, really likes Vincent
Price.
Keanu Reeves continues to know
kung fu in this, his first directorial effort. Part One of the “Keanu Reeves
Co-Opts Asian Pop Culture” trilogy, along with 47 Ronin and Ninja, Please!
(last title may change).
• Best
of Ancient Aliens: Greatest Mysteries
Does it solve the mystery of how Ancient Aliens managed to rack up 64
episodes? Because if it does… I still won’t care in the slightest.
• Gatchaman:
The Complete Collection
The classic ’70s anime, known in
the U.S. as Battle of the Planets, in
its original, uncensored, and completely crazy glories. Five young psychopaths
are given weapons, tech and bird-themed costumes to fight alien invaders. The
set contain all 105 episodes and OVA movies on 14 Blu-ray discs.
Daryl Hannah, Anthony Michael Hall
and Alan Ruck manage to find a zombie movie that is beneath all of them.
For those of you who just can’t
wait to get this epic masterpiece on Blu-ray, feel free to spend $60 on the
Spanish-language edition.
During the Great Depression, a
young girl watches as her lawyer father defends a black man falsely accused of
rape in their small Southern town.
