JVC has announced they have finally gotten around to developing dual layered DVD-RW discs (DVD-RW DL). Dual layered, for those of you that missed it, is slapping two data layers on a DVD — in the recordable disc world, this allows for 8.5GB of space versus the conventional 4.7GB.
Anyway, I could get all technical and explain how this works, but do you really care? DVD-R DL discs are already expensive enough; you could probably buy a whole spindle of vanilla DVD-Rs for what it costs to get a single DVD-RW DL. Not that pricing has been announced or anything.
