Cabbage Patch Kids. Beanie Babies. Tickle-Me Elmo. Highly sought-after toys usually follow the same pattern. They become popular, hugely valuable, difficult to find, and then slowly, that all fades. Now, it seems, Labubu is joining that list.

The popular monster character that was hanging off of everyone’s bag in 2025 was one of the hottest IPs in recent years. However, its owner, Pop Mart, has not been able to maintain interest in the property or duplicate its success with other products, and has seen its stock price drop about 60% since August 2025, resulting in about a $33 billion loss.

That does not bode well for the future of Labubu. In fact, they may be going La-bye-bye.

The news comes from Bloomberg, which explains that the popularity of Labubu raised the price of Pop Mart stock by about 300% last year. But, since that height, it’s tumbled, which is where the $33 billion comes from. “Efforts to diversify its intellectual property have yet to emerge as meaningful growth drivers,” the article says. “The Labubu-led Monsters series accounted for about 40% of total revenue last year, up from 23% in 2024. Meanwhile, other high-profile figures including Crybaby and Molly posted weaker-than-expected sales.”

Basically, if you were part of the craze and got some enjoyment out of it, that’s great. But that in the box Labubu you are saving probably isn’t going to be worth much in the end. It was fun while it lasted, but things are coming to an end.

The real question now, though, is whether Pop Mart even stays afloat. The Bloomberg article is pretty pessimistic about the future of the company’s stock, which isn’t good for the company itself. And then, will Sony move forward with the Labubu movie it was so excited to get rolling? It even got Paddington helmer Paul King on board. Why even make the effort if people aren’t going to be talking about Labubu in a few months, let alone several years?
