The Lenovo N100 notebook will be available later this month in 14.1- and 15.4-inch widescreen configurations. Inside is your choice of either a 2GHz Intel Core Duo processor or 1.67GHz Core Solo chip, and you can load it up with a gig of RAM and a 100GB 5400rpm drive. Graphics on the 14.1-inch model are the 64MB NVIDIA GeForce Go 7300, and that number is raised to 128MB on the 15.4-inch unit.

As Lenovo eases away from its IBM heritage, it’s dropped the TrackPoint and UltraNav pointers, and put the USB, 1394 and VGA ports on the side. These are not necessarily bad things. Too bad the things are so heavy, though, with the heaviest 15.4-inch unit weighing 6.17 lb. and the 14.1 being not much lighter than that. And it seems that if Lenovo is going to move away from its IBM roots, it could certainly put together a prettier notebook than this. On the upside, the N100s are said to be “attractively priced,” although exact numbers weren’t forthcoming yet.
