Lin-Manuel Miranda likely doesn’t sleep much, considering all the projects the Hamilton creator and Moana composer has on his plate. Next up: he’s throwing his talents behind an adaptation of Pat Rothfuss’ highly acclaimed Kingkiller Chronicle fantasy trilogy.
Rothfuss and Miranda will work together on the adaptation, with Miranda coming aboard as the creative producer; he’ll also—befitting the book’s musical themes—compose original music for the project. Not that anyone was doubting Miranda’s qualifications, but he also happens to be a huge fan of Rothfuss’ books, noting that “Pat writes about the act of making music more beautifully than any novelist I’ve ever read.”
Lindsey Beer, whose resume includes the upcoming fifth Transformers movie (the one with King Arthur, if that counts as fantasy cred), will adapt the first Kingkiller book, The Name of the Wind. And Lionsgate doesn’t plan on stopping there, according to The Hollywood Reporter, which notes that the studio has a “multipronged plan” to adapt the books for movies and “a premium quality drama series” which will “expand on the world outside of the books.” Sounds a bit like Game of Thrones—though Rothfuss will hopefully deliver the much-anticipated final Kingkiller Chronicle book, The Doors of Stone, with more speed than George R.R. Martin’s near-mythically delayed Winds of Winter.
