Not surprisingly, the Thunderbolt cable is not your average cable. It's an active cable with 12 chips and "tons" of resistors. Together these electronic components regulate the high-speed transfer of data from the Thunderbolt device to the computer. Yeah, it may not cost $50 to build, but this is Apple we are talking about.
