Today, Netflix started rolling out the user profiles we've been hearing about. Huzzah, you can finally share an account with your roommate without your feed getting carpet-bombed by episodes of Jericho.
The new feature lets you setup a maximum of five profiles per account. Each account can also be connected to Facebook so that you can get recommendations based on what your friends are watching. (Until recently, this feature wasn't just missing—it was illegal.)
As the introductory video above points out, you don't need to use the different profiles for different people—an individual can also use them to distinguish between different moods or genres. That way your "getting ready for bed" profile's feed won't get recommendations for horror flicks.
According to Netflix, profiles will be rolled out over the next few days. Right now, I'm getting an error when I try to navigate to my account so it looks like Netflix is experiencing some growing pains. When the system is fully up and running, you'll be able to add and switch between profiles from links in the top-right corner of your screen. [Netflix]
