Never pick up sexy hitchhikers; they’re probably feline body-snatchers

The other day we featured this positively perplexing Japanese monster scene, and the internet seemed to dig it.

Now — thanks to the helpful tutelage of io9 commenter Erwin — we know that the monster (“The Pink/Peach Armadillo”) was from the 1970s Japanese tokusatsu show Android Kikaider (the monster apparently commits suicide at the end of the episode). What’s awesome about this show was its formula for coming up with the monster of the week. Color + Animal = Bad Guy. Brilliant!

This method gave Japanese television such variegated villains as the Blue Buffalo, the White Saw Shark , and the Purple Rat. One of these baddies was a spell-casting feline, Silver Cat. In the above clip, Silver Cat steals the identity of Yoko, a museum curator’s daughter. Everything is normal until the 1:00 mark then HOLY SHIT IT’S CATURDAY.

Between this and Pink Armadillo, I sort of need to pick up the boxed set of Android Kikaider now.
