Pentax dropped two new 6 megapixel cameras today, the Optio S6 and the Optio WPi. Both have 3x optical zoom lens, tracking AF, and a candlelight mode to capture low-light photos with better sensitivity.
The Optio S6 is a sliding lens cam with a 2.5″ Beau-Reflective LCD with 232k color depth and a backlight option. The 19mm compact can also record movies at 640 x 480 pixels at 30 fps and with DivX MPEG-4 compression. There’s 23Mb built-in memory, with an SD slot for additional storage.
The Optio WPi is a waterproof camera—no need for additional waterproof casing here. You can use this for a continuous 30 minutes at a depth of 1.5 meters underwater, which would be pretty good for short dives near the beach. It has a 2.0″ LCD with 115k color, 4x digital zoom, and 10.6Mb built-in memory with an SD slot for extra. One really interesting feature is a recovery function, which allows you to recover photos you’ve accidentally deleted as long as you catch it in time before it’s overwritten or before you’ve turned off the camera. Another is that there movie-edit functions in the camera, so you can edit any movie recordings without a PC. At only about 2.2cm in width, this definitely sounds like a good option for a travel digicam.
