Samsung’s 40-Inch FHD Smart TV Now Costs About as Much as a Budget Portable Monitor in Clearance Push

It's about time you got a bigger TV, and this affordable display is well worth investing in.

The Samsung F6000 is a 40-inch 1080P smart TV marketed as an alternative to larger, higher-priced Samsung TVs, such as the 4K Crystal and QLED lines. However, it still uses Tizen, the same operating system used by all of Samsung’s current lineup. So, apps, display layouts, and navigation menus remain similar to those of more expensive Samsung TVs. It makes for a great secondary display in smaller rooms, especially for those already used to how Samsung TVs work.

The Samsung F6000 is $148 on Amazon, reduced from $198, which is a $50 discount, or 25% off.

A crisp, crystal clear TV perfect for the living room

Most buyers are primarily interested in resolution as their primary spec. However, with a 40-inch screen, there’s little difference in perceived quality between 1080p and 4K. This TV has sufficient pixel density, so if you sit at an average viewing distance in a typical bedroom or kitchen, you won’t see individual pixels or get a screen door effect. Basically, the loss in resolution is worth the extra savings.

Streaming applications are natively supported by Tizen OS, so there’s no need to connect an additional streaming device to the back of your television. You get access to hundreds of completely free channels as part of Samsung Plus, which include live news networks, classic TV shows, movie channels, and many others. You also don’t have to learn a completely different OS if you’re already used to Tizen, since this TV’s interface is very similar to Samsung’s other models.

The F6000 has Object Tracking Sound Lite, which applies audio processing that shifts sound across the speaker output to follow on-screen movement. So, a vehicle crossing the frame produces audio that travels with it rather than staying fixed at the center. The processing improves the perceived directionality of the built-in speakers, which are physically small on a TV at this price. The tech isn’t a substitute for a dedicated soundbar, but it provides more separation than the speakers alone can.

Samsung Gaming Hub streams games from cloud services over the internet without a connected console. A Bluetooth controller and a network connection are all it needs to run. SmartThings support lets the TV pull up a video feed from a compatible doorbell or security camera directly on screen, which is where the security reference in the product title comes from.

The F6000’s current Amazon price is $148, down from $198. That puts a current-generation Samsung smart TV with full Tizen functionality below $150, and a 40-inch screen is perfect for smaller rooms where there’s not much real-world difference between 1080p and 4K.
