I took this picture using a complex series of mirrors and the Nikon D80 featured in the picture. The composition is actually my reflection. The lens was a Nikon Nikkor 50.0 mm f/1.4. It was shot in manual mode. The Shutter Speed was 1/25 with an F-Stop of 3.5. The ISO was set at 500.

Black backdrop behind my head

2 Costco cat food containers on either side of my head

2 Nikon SB-800’s with a 1/2 cut of blue gel on top of those containers, sitting flush against the lips of the containers so the light does not spill down, just straight out

I put a clear cooking dish on those flashes, resting the handles of the dish on the heads of the flash so they fire directly into the dish

I put 2 black material go betweens on top of the dish’s handles to direct the light into the dish and not up, making the dish and the water the light for the face

Shot with a Nikon D700 with a Nikon 17-35mm lens at F8, 1/250sec at ISO 200, shutter and flashes were wireless

-Ryan Holloway

I took this with my blackberry bold at my desk for my day job. I picked this location because all I really want to do is be an actor, and sitting in this place angers me. This is me at my most vulnerable and exhausted. No ego. I chose to use post-its because I have exhausted all of my options. I wanted to use the blackberry camera because I use it for my vlogs that I post as well, to keep with the theme.

-Phillip Chorba

I took this picture with a trifold mirror, the camera below me, and a strobe behind me for lighting.

Nikon D90 with a 35mm 1:1.8G Nikon lens. The settings were set to auto and I used a speedlight for the lighting. The speedlight was pointed at the ceiling so it bounced down and lit the scene at an angle.

Shot with a Canon EOS digital rebel XT. 18-55 mm 1:3.5-5.6 II lenses. ISO 100, shot with no light. aperture of 3.5.

i used a 10 MP Sanyo camera, Photoshop CS3, gimp 2.6, and graphite pencils on paper.

The reason i didnt use a real photo of myself is because i hate having my picture taken. I think my art and were i make it shows more of my personality than my own appearence, thats also why i drew it in pencil, gives it kinda a wispy look but also to be an impermanent medium.

Camera: Sony a700

Lens(es): Minolta 50mm 1.7 / Sigma 24mm 2.8

ISO: 400

Shutter Speed: 1/80

Aperture: 1.7 / 2.8

Lighting: Alien Bees ab800 (camera right high through octabox)

For this shot, I first used my 50mm at 1.7 for the portrait of my face (the photo on the iPad), the bottom half of my torso (photo on the Macbook) and used the iphone’s camera to take a picture of the couch behind it. I then put the photos on the devices an spent about an eternity lining up all the devices with my body, shooting almost 100 takes with the 24mm lens at 2.8.

Just a regular point and shoot set to timer, posed and some photoshopping. Meant to look like the Scarface movie poster, even though I don’t care for the movie.

This picture was snagged using an iPhone 3GS immediately after a workout. I am standing opposite a mirror and the image is my reflection. Notice how to jaw in the image is crisp, but the rest of the forehead is intentionally blurry to give the tired yet intense look.

-Pradyut Bafna

I started with just a plain old “hold out the camera and aim for face” shot. I then used Paint.NET to sharpen the image before using the “edge detect” effect. Then, I lit up my old TRS-80 from above and snagged that shot. I merged the two pictures together to create the final image. I took the pictures with a myTouch3g. Auto-focus, auto-white-balance.

I was rocking out in my condo (playing the solo from “November Rain”) when I took this shot. The equipment: MacBook Pro’s built in iSight. Sat it on my coffee table, angled the screen up just so, then took the picture using Photo Booth.

-Ryan Moser

I took this picture with my Nikon D3000 mounted on a tripod facing a mirror in my room. I took one picture with me screaming at the mirror and used that as my reflection then I took another picture of me in the same area looking down and used that as the actual me not being reflected.

My goal with this entry was photorealism, I used a wacom tablet to paint it in Photoshop CS3. I started with a reference picture I took on my video camera, and then digitally painted over top of it. The background was based off a series of doodles on my notebook.

-Matt Eriks

I used a Nikon D70s with a remote flash pointed straight toward the side of my face. The lens was a Vivitar series 1 105mm macro. The exposure time was a half second because my remote flash was being unresponsive, and the aperture was about f-16.

-Cameron Hunt

I used a Pentax K-X (with the 18-55 kit-lens) for both the printed picture and the actual result, two flashlights, a diffusor from Delamax and a Phottix remote flashlight trigger. The first shot was taken in front of a white wall with a tripod, printed and cutted. In the end I was able to take the picture of me without a tripod. The final shot is taken at ISO 200, 9,0 aperture and it took 1/50 of a second.

For this shot I used two light strobes with a wireless trigger and put two gels over the strobes, using two different color to get this effect!

I took this picture with a Canon Rebel XSi, and a Speedlite 430EXII. I had my camera tethered to my MacBook on a 2 second shutter delay. I applied a blue tint using Photoshop Elements, the selected the area outside of the shirt, and applied a black tint. I picked the spot by the window because I thought that it provided a good visual contrast, and a good background.

-Grant Howell

I used my point and shoot Nikon L100 with this shot. It has a Nikkor 15X 5.0-75.0 mm Lens.
