Stegobeetle is back, and he's bigger and badder than ever

You remember stegobeetle, don't you? Sure you do. Stegobeetle was the mean, green late-Jurassic-machine with a Volkswagon beetle for a body.

Well, apparently turning old VW bugs into stegosaurus torsos is something of a time-honored tradition. Featured up top is a sculpture — called Stegowagenvolkssaurus — which stands in North Kentucky University's W. Frank Steely Library, except this stego-sculpture was created by one Patricia Renick all the way back in 1974.

Pretty awesome, yes? We think so. Come to think of it, it's hard to imagine a more formidably awesome dinovehicular mashup than a VW Bug and a stegosaurus. I mean, you'd have to cross a triceratops with a helicopter or something.

What's that? Renick created one of those, too? You're goddamn right she did. [Spotted on reddit]
