FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski has resigned his post at the top of the agency. He’ll formally leave within a few weeks. That leaves two of the top five spots open at the agency that regulates telecoms, carriers and cable operators. As with lots of top political figures, Genachowski’s tenure was marked by both victories and failures.
Genachowski took the helm of the FCC back in 2009 with the stated goal of freeing up broadcast airwaves for use by mobile phone companies. He didn’t exactly get that done. But under Genachowski’s leadership, the FCC helped block the AT&T takeover of T-Mobile, which could have been disastrous for consumers. [FCC via NYT]
