All hail the king. Kendrick Lamar and Top Dawg Entertainment have released the album they cultivated and produced for Black Panther, and it’s about to become your regular playlist for the next week, and then some.
Black Panther: The Album has got to be one of the best comic book soundtracks that’s been released in years. Honestly, it might be the best, as I can’t think of any albums from the MCU or DCEU franchises that manage to surpass it—apart from perhaps Marvel TV’s Luke Cage soundtrack. Granted, Guardians of the Galaxy is known for its solid mixtapes, but Lamar has gone one step further and created something new that’s not only strong and passionate but also brings Wakanda to the center stage. It’s a musical journey through the film and its story.
A couple of standouts include Lamar’s performance on “Black Panther,” the harmonies and flow on “Bloody Waters,” the opening verse on “King’s Dead,” and “Redemption Interlude.” However, the song that’s really stuck in my brain, and probably will be for the rest of the weekend, is “Pray For Me” fea.uring The Weeknd and Lamar. I have no doubt is going to be the next single from the album, as it well should be. It’s a gorgeous track! Be sure to comment with your favorites from the album below.
You can stream Black Panther: The Album on Spotify, as seen below, and here’s a bunch of places you can buy it.
