Universal wants The Mummy 4 to feel like the return of old friends you didn’t know you missed. Not only are Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz back in action as Rick and Evie O’Connell, John Hannah’s also coming back for some fourths.
The Hollywood Reporter broke the news on Friday, revealing Hannah will reprise his role as Evie’s thief brother John Carnahan. Like Fraser, Hannah has been in all three of the Stephen Sommers movies, whereas Weisz was replaced by Mario Bello for Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. Given Radio Silence’s stance about Tomb being (apparently) non-canon to the first two movies, that raises questions about Rick and Evie’s son Alex. Luke Ford played an adult Alex in the third movie, but how old will he be in this new one? We’ll find out eventually, ditto whether we’ll see Oded Fehr as Ardeth Bay again.
Plot details on The Mummy 4 are currently buried deep, but THR reveals filming is set to begin this fall. The movie itself doesn’t come out until May 19, 2028, so we’ve got time to learn more about it, including the new blood (and new mummy) that’ll join the O’Connells and Carnahans in their next adventure. To help tide you over until then, Universal’s put The Mummy Returns back in theaters for the weekend ahead of its 25th birthday in May.
