The Walking Dead Creator Knows How It's Gonna End, Just Not When

Anyone worried that the hit zombie comic or the TV series might endlessly continue until the real world itself was finally overcome by the living dead, you may now breathe a sigh of relief. Creator/writer Robert Kirkman does have an ending in mind for the series, he just doesn't know when he's going to get around to it.

From Entertainment Weekly:

While Kirkman is not sure how many Walking Dead comics he has left in store, he did share one interesting nugget: He knows how it will end. "I do know what I'm building toward, yes," confirms Kirkman. "I don't know exactly what issue that's going to fall on, per se, and I do have a lot of road laid out before that that is going to take a long time, but I certainly know exactly what I'm building to."

That's always a relief to hear. There are so many series — comics, shows, whatever — that start strong but never get around to having an endgame planned, and that lack of a strong conclusion invariably affects the story as a whole. I feel much better about the idea of watching The Walking Dead TV series — both of them — for the next 10 years, or however long it takes for Kirkman to get tired of AMC driving dumptrucks full of money into his driveway. I don't necessarily care how long it takes to get wherever it's going, I just care that it's going somewhere.
