Today is Twitter's fifth birthday. It's so big now, it's easy to forget how small it started off. We thought it would be fun to look back at the first words from some of the service's biggest users. Enjoy.


We took a look at the first tweets from Twitter's founders, celebrities, politicians, tech titans and media barons. Each category is listed in the order in which someone first tweeted. It's pretty obvious that Twitter wasn't really popular until 2008, and didn't become the monster we know today until 2009.

Also? Everyone sucks at Twitter to start with. Except George Takei. Who is awesome.
