These aborted landings and violent take-offs will make anyone pale

Judging by this video, BHX (Birmingham, England) is one of the worst airports to land and take-off during the winter. Just watch and hold on to your chair:

Some landing and take-off highlights in awkward wind conditions at BHX this winter (a record winter for stormy conditions in the UK). Note the frequent flexing of the planes' wings in response to the turbulence.

Of the five "missed approaches" shown, three diverted to other airports, two were "go arounds" and landed successfully on second attempt.

Nothing to See Here!

What is it like to fly in conditions like this? Do you feel and see it completely or is it more like regular turbulence? How does the pilot explain to the passengers that they're aborting the landing?

Also this heat thingy on the wings looks so fucking cool! What causes that? Are the wings really hot or is the heat from the jets being directed by the wings? Go to 9:02 to see it properly, difficult to see it without motion.
