This pier extends out from Progreso into the Gulf of Mexico a staggering 4 miles. But just as astonishing as the structure itself is the beautiful wake it creates as the waters in the sea pass by.

Construction of the pier began in 1985, and the orginal strucutre has been extended from 1.2 miles to the current 4. It's built over a wide and shallow continental shelf, to dock large cargo and passenger ships. In 2014, almost 100 cruise liners docked in Progreso, carrying more than 344,000 passengers to the city.
