How do you create a convincing space-based music video? By actually filming it in space, at least if you’re producer Joe Connor.
To create this new music video for Kelvin Jones, Connor decided to eschew animation and actually do it the hard way. He explains:
Yup, that really is a TV in space, for real. I created this video by sending a vintage Sony TV into orbit on a weather balloon provided by Sent Into Space, surrounded by cameras so as to capture this spectacular footage hovering above the Big Blue Marble itself.
More precisely, it took two launches – both from Snowdonia in Wales, with two identical TVs, with each launch providing the opportunity to rig the GoPros in different positions.
In the process of making the video, the TV reach an altitude just 0.003% below the Armstrong line — the height at which atmospheric pressure is so low that water boils at the normal temperature of the human body. Not many music videos boast a fact like that. The song’s not too bad, either.
