Defiance (9 PM, Syfy):

Annnd now, this huge-budget futuristic Western is settling down into being just a standard "cop show with aliens." At least, that's what it sounds like: "A killer is pursued; at the same time, Nolan and Datak come to blows over an ancient ritual."

Revolution (10 PM, NBC):

This episode was preempted last week for coverage of the Boston attack, and now it's airing a week late. Basically, Miles and Rachel head for Georgia to stop a nuclear bomb going off, while Rachel and Google head for the Tower. And nobody does the obvious thing of killing that Randall guy, who walks around in public all the time far from Monroe's troops.

Lost Girl (10 PM, Syfy):

It's the season finale! We watched this episode already, and... it's kind of a muddle. If you've been wondering how the show can wrap up all the stuff about the Morrigan, Tamsin's reluctant scheming to capture Bo, and Lauren's new job in one episode, it looks as though the show's writers had similar concerns. Legitimate concerns, at that. In any case, it's got some fun moments but also a good amount of "What exactly just happened?" stuff.

Also on TV tonight: There's a new Crash & Bernstein on Disney XD at 8:30 PM. Also, there's a new episode of The Following at 9 PM on Fox, a new Brain Games on National Geographic at 9:30 PM, and the season finale of Alien Mysteries on DA at 10 PM. Also at 10 PM: a new Castle on ABC.

Tuesday:

Johnny Test (7:00 PM, Cartoon Network):

This show about a boy who serves as his sisters' lab rat is back! And here's what's up:

“Johnny on the Clock” — It's the last day of summer vacation! Will Johnny have to face going back to school, or will Susan and Mary's time-stopping watch make this the summer that never ends?

Teen Titans Go! (7:30 PM, Cartoon Network):

Brand new DC show! I guess this show is airing on Tuesdays for the time being, what with the DC Nation block being sort of on hiatus. Here's what to expect:

"Legendary Sandwich” – Wanting to get rid of the other Titans so she can watch her favorite cartoon in peace, Raven sends them to the ends of the universe on a quest for the ingredients to make a legendary magical sandwich with the secret of eternal life. “Pie Bros.”– Cyborg’s birthday is coming up, so Beast Boy takes a job at their favorite pie shop so he can afford an expensive gift. But when he has to work during Cyborg’s party, his job threatens to come between the two pie bros.

That's followed by a brand new Looney Tunes Show.

Wednesday:

Arrow (8 PM, The CW):

Yay, this superhero romp is back! Whatever you wind up thinking of Teen Titans, at least you can always count on Ollie to be Ollie. Here's the deal:

DEADSHOT (GUEST STAR MICHAEL ROWE) FIRES OFF A NEW ROUND IN STARLING CITY — Deadshot (guest star Michael Rowe) returns to Starling City after taking down a U.S. Ambassador and six others overseas. By keeping tabs on A.R.G.U.S.’s manhunt for the assassin, Oliver (Stephen Amell), Diggle (David Ramsey), and Felicity (guest star Emily Bett Rickards) learn that a sting operation is underway to capture Deadshot – alive. Diggle is determined to see his brother’s killer dead, with or without Ollie’s help. Meanwhile, Laurel (Katie Cassidy) takes drastic steps to protect a young witness, exacerbating friction between Tommy (Colin Donnell) and Oliver. Later, Roy Harper (guest star Colton Haynes) unconventionally pursues all leads to find his new hero, but runs afoul of Detective Lance (Paul Blackthorne). Back on the island, Oliver recalls how Shado (guest star Celina Jade) helped him incrementally gain confidence with a bow and hit the target for the first time.

Supernatural (9 PM, The CW):

And meanwhile, the creators of Supernatural seem to have noticed that their show got a shot in the arm creatively when Felicia Day came back — so obviously the answer is more Felicia Day!

DEAN INTRODUCES CHARLIE TO CHEAP PANTSUITS — Concerned about the physical toll the second trial took on Sam (Jared Padalecki), Dean (Jensen Ackles) benches his brother from hunting until he heals up. So, when geektastic hacker Charlie (guest star Felicia Day) stumbles upon a case and finds the boys, Dean decides it’s time to teach Charlie how to be a hunter-in-training. While happy to see “her highness,” the boys suspect Charlie is hiding something; a secret that could get her killed.

Also on TV tonight: There's more Nova, about the first 4 billion years of Australia, on PBS at 9 PM. Syfy has more Deep South Paranormal at 10 PM, plus USA has a new Psych, National Geographic has Breakout: Escape from Supermax, and FX has The Americans.

The Vampire Diaries (8 PM, The CW):

Profoundly mixed feelings here... this episode is the "back door pilot" for a brand new Vampire Diaries spin-off called The Originals, focusing on Klaus' family but also introducing a whole new cast of human and supernatural characters. Can this possibly be worth watching? Do you really want two hours per week of TVD? Is The CW basically admitting that The Secret Circle and Beauty and the Beast failed to capture the TVD audience, so now we're just going to have a show that admits it's derivative of TVD? On the other hand, yay for more humans and a thinning out of Mystic Falls' supernatural population. Here's the scoop:

KLAUS RETURNS TO HIS PAST IN NEW ORLEANS — Acting on a mysterious tip that a plot is brewing against him in New Orleans, Klaus (Joseph Morgan) makes a trip to the town he and his family helped build. Klaus’ questions lead him to a reunion with his former protégé, Marcel (guest star Charles Michael Davis), a charismatic vampire who has total control over the human and supernatural inhabitants of New Orleans. Determined to help his brother find redemption, Elijah (Daniel Gillies) follows Klaus and soon learns that Hayley (guest star Phoebe Tonkin) has also come to the French Quarter searching for clues to her family history, and has fallen into the hands of a powerful witch named Sophie (guest star Daniella Pineda). Meanwhile, in Mystic Falls, Damon (Ian Somerhalder) and Stefan (Paul Wesley) continue with their plan for Elena (Nina Dobrev), while Katherine (Nina Dobrev) reveals a surprising vulnerability to Rebekah (Claire Holt) and asks her to deliver a message.

Beauty and the Beast (9 PM, The CW):

Speaking of shows that failed to capture the TVD audience:

GABE REVEALS HIS TRUE INTENTIONS — Gabe (Sendhil Ramamurthy) comes clean to Cat (Kristin Kreuk) that he knows about Muirfield. Vincent (Jay Ryan) does not think Cat should trust Gabe and is suspicious of his intentions, which causes tension between them. Meanwhile, JT (Austin Basis) and Vincent finally find a new place to live.

Person of Interest (9 PM, CBS):

Remember this show? That strategy of "one weeks on, three weeks off" airings seems like a bad one, if they want to hook people on the series. In any case, the long-simmering Fusco storyline finally hits a boil this week:

"In Extremis" - When a luminary in the world of medicine is poisoned, Reese and Finch have just 24 hours to determine the deadly toxin he was given and find the person behind the attack. Meanwhile, Detective Fusco's past corruption catches up with him when an informant gives the Internal Affairs Bureau the crucial information they need to send him to prison.

Also on TV tonight: There are dueling sitcoms: Big Bang Theory on CBS and Community on NBC, at 8 PM. Weather has the season finale of Forecasting The End at 9 PM. Gwyneth Paltrow is talking Iron Man 3 on Graham Norton at 10 PM on BBC America. At midnight, there's a new Your Pretty Face is Going to Hell on Adult Swim. In an alternate universe, audiences watching The CW will be getting to the bottom of the insane mysteries of Cult.

Friday:

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (7:30 PM, Nickeloden):

This show is back, just as Michael Bay's movie version ramps up. Here's what's up: "While the Turtles are infiltrating an undersea Kraang base, the Foot Clan attempts to capture April."

Grimm (9 PM, NBC):

Just like Revolution, this show was preempted last week by news from Boston. So the episode that was supposed to air last Friday, about the Wesen trying to set off a volcano and destroy Portland, is airing tonight instead.

Da Vinci's Demons (9 PM, Starz):

What weird device will Da Vinci invent, centuries ahead of time, in this episode? Whose nipples will glitter? What is the Pope up to? "Riario engages the Pope and a mysterious prisoner in a discussion concerning the count's defeat, while Leonardo searches for a rational explanation when an outbreak of demonic possession occurs at a convent, and the blame is placed on the Medicis."

Also on TV tonight: There's a brand new Nikita on The CW at 8 PM. There's are two new episodes of Yu-Gi-Oh! on Nicktoons at 9 PM. And a new Phineas & Ferb on Disney at 9:30 PM.

Saturday:

Doctor Who (8 PM, BBC America):

It's been a long time since we did much exploring inside the TARDIS, barring a smidge in "The Doctor's Wife." But now we're getting a really good look inside the Doctor's mysterious time ship, with "Journey to the Center of the TARDIS":

Clara is lost in the depths of the TARDIS which is invaded by an intergalactic salvage crew who want to sell it for scrap, but the Doctor threatens to destroy the TARDIS by putting it in lock down and activating the self destruct if the salvage crew doesn’t help him find Clara.

Orphan Black (9 PM, BBC America):

This episode is called "Conditions of Existence," but we weren't able to hunt down any details.

Stonados (9 PM, Syfy):

Yep, a Syfy original movie that's named after the condition in which you're likely to watch it. "Paul Johanssen. William B. Davis and Thea Gill star in this disaster movie about a freak weather system which hurls deadly boulders onto Boston." Yup, it's actually a Syfy movie about rocks being tossed around. Come back, Sharktopus!

Also on TV today: And a new Monsters Vs. Aliens on Nickelodeon at 11:30 AM. Science has a brand new Oddities at 9 PM, while at the same time Nickelodeon has two new episodes of Supah Ninjas, including the season finale.

Sunday:

Once Upon a Time (8 PM, ABC):

All we know about this episode is, it's called "The Evil Queen," and it's written by genre MVP Jane Espenson. And there are lots of fan theories that it's a huge turning point for the Evil Queen and Belle. We'll find out soon!

Doctor Who: The Doctors Revisited: The Fourth Doctor (8 PM, BBC America):

A brand new look at arguably the most famous of the classic incarnations of the time-traveling alien. While the others dressed like eccentric Victorian gentlemen, hoboes or cricket players, Tom Baker's Doctor wore a 20-foot scarf and looked like a weird artist. This should be interesting.

Game of Thrones (9 PM, HBO):

This could be yet another pivotal episode, containing a major turning point for Tyrion — and that should be interesting to watch. Here's what HBO says: " The Hound (Rory McCann) is judged by the gods; Jaime is judged by men. Jon proves himself; Robb (Richard Madden) is betrayed. Tyrion learns the cost of weddings."

Also on TV today: Fox has its usual raft of animated TV shows. Nicktoons has a brand new Monsuno at 9 PM. There's the season finale of Vikings on History at 10 PM.
