TiVo on Comcast: How it Works

When our Motorola HD DVR box was giving us that "please wait a moment, channel coming soon" message 15 minutes before Jack Bauer time last time, we were about to throw it the frak out the window. So you can imagine how much we're looking forward to the TiVo Comcast interface coming soon from Comcast.

So how does it work? First off, you don't get a new box whether you want it or not. This is just the TiVo UI being run on top of your piece of crap Motorola box. In fact, the OS is self-updating, so you could go to sleep one night and wake up the next morning with a spanking new TiVo UI.

The box also has standard Comcast features like On Demand and other stuff nobody uses. There's a special TiVo remote that works with your Motorola box, which incidentally needs to be mailed to you from Comcast HQ. The only difference between this and standard TiVo remotes is the On Demand button. You don't necessarily need it, but it's far better than the standard Motorola affair.

No word on how soon these will roll out and for how much, but something tells is it won't be more than the standard $9.95 you currently pay your Comcast DVR now. Just a hunch.

And a note to our Comcast Motorola DVR: If you ever think about causing us to miss an episode of 24 again, you're gone.
