Hailed as an iPod killer by marketing goons (what isn’t an iPod killer nowadays?), Toshiba is poised to debut its Gigabeat S line of portable digital media players on April 28 in Japan. The Gigabeat S line features two different players, the Gigabeat S30 and the Gigabeat S60, which have 30 and 60 gigabytes of storage, respectively. They run on Windows Portable Media Center and sport a 2.4-inch QVGA color display and an eight-mode equalizer. If you spring for the 60-gigabyte version, you also get to enjoy an integrated FM tuner. The players support MP3, WMA and its lossless cousin,WMV, DivX (!) and JPEG. Look for prices to start around $304. Stateside release is still up in the air.
