Tuesday Game Room: The Night Before The Night Before Christmas Edition

It's Christmas Eve Eve! Nothing is coming out, but it's also time to get excited for all the wonderful games you'll play over the holidays. Looking forward to something under the tree from Greatfather Winter? Dipping into your backlog? Tell us about your Christmas Gaming in this week's Tuesday Game Room!

What have you been playing this week?

I am somehow still playing Destiny despite hating myself for it, but that's Destiny I guess. I hate it, I hate me whenever I play it, and yet every time I go to turn on my PS4 in the hopes of playing Dragon Age, I play Destiny instead. I MUST BE STOPPED.

But the actual bulk of my gaming this past week has gone to World of Warcraft. I've made a strong headway into the Legendary Ring quest with Khadgar, and all I need to do now is head into raiding to complete the Abrogator stones part of it - but before that, I need to run heroic dungeons to get better gear, something I've been putting off ever since I hit level 100. I don't know what it is - I know that I'm pretty good on my Hunter, I tend to top DPS charts - but I have always had anxiety issues playing Warcraft in a group, even if the DPS is perhaps the least-important slice of the group. The fact that your actions impact on 4 other real people has always gotten to me a bit and it takes a lot for me to wind up to doing group content every time a new expansion comes along. That said, I didn't fail miserably in the three I needed to do for Khadgar, so hooray!

New Releases!

THERE IS NOTHING COMING OUT, IT'S CHRISTMAS. Okay, I tell a lie, there are some digital games coming to the Playstation store and the eShop. But very little! Trine Enchanted Edition and Switch Galaxy Ultra land on PS4, while the PS3 sees the release Shake Spears! and Resogun, and the Vita gets Broken Sword 5 - The Serpent's Curse: Episode 2 and Fieldrunners 2.

Meanwhile, the Wii U eShop gets Shantae And The Pirate's Curse and Duck Hunt. That's probably it for the year now.

And now, the News

Once again it's time for a few select picks from the last week of Gaming news, via Eurogamer:

  • Final Fantasy XV gets a new trailer with HD Towns, Colossus and a Female Cid - How on earth did it take so long for a Cid to be a woman? Cidney (of course) is a buxom (also unfortunately, of course) car mechanic who will occasionally help out Noctis and his bro-crew on their road trip. Makes sense, with all the car-related travelling you'll do - but go enjoy the shiny new trailer! So much Final Fantasy XV after so long. It feels strange.
  • Telltale's latest franchise is... err, Minecraft? - Bu-wha!? Minecraft, the home of rich lore and immersive storytelling, is becoming an episodic Telltale series. This seems entirely pointless to me as Minecraft has always been about emergent storytelling that the player derives themselves, so I'm not entirely sure what Telltale will do. But did they really need another franchise on their plates when they were already struggling with release dates of the 4 ongoing series they have now?
  • 343 say sorry for Master Chief Collection woes with free ODST DLC - It absolutely sucks that the Master Chief Collection is still a complete mess over a month after release, but at least 343 are doing right by Halo fans with a free DLC for the game that will bring the wonderful campaign from Halo 3: ODST to the collection in 1080p and 60FPS sometime next year. Lets hope the game is actually working by then. You'd hope so!
  • Hoo Boy, Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor does not run well on last-gen - This isn't really newsy, but still interesting. 2014 has been defined by cross-gen game releases as well as 'remastered' last-gen games coming to the PS4 and Xbox One, but it's about time we started seeing the PS3 and Xbox 360 left behind. Shadow of Mordor's awful performance in this new Digital Foundry test just go to show that, after many years of stalwart service, it's time for the last generation to be laid to rest going forward.

We'll be back this time next Tuesday for more gaming discussion, but for now, sound off in the comments with the games you've been playing, and what you're looking forward to this week - and don't forget to join the unofficial io9 community group on Steam!

Gooooooooooood. Gooooooooood. Give in to your hatred!

I'm so nearly done with my DA: Inquisition playthrough. 110hrs in. All high dragons dead. I've collected almost all the shards and closed nearly all rifts. Once I do those two things, I shall face The End.

I genuinely don't know how the game is going to end. This is very exciting. I haven't felt this way in a long time.
