It's a new year, and it's full of promise. This year is already rife with change, too. Gizmodo is no exception. Today, we welcome Annalee Newitz as the new editor-in-chief of Gizmodo and bid farewell to Brian Barrett, who's off to start a new site with the Awl.

That's just the way it is. We all love Brian. We'll miss him dearly and can't wait to see what he creates at his new home. We're also thrilled to start the new chapter—a.k.a. the Future Initiative—with Annalee. All that said, things will never be the same. Except for this Tupac cover. It's inevitably immortal.
