Two Black Holes Fight For Supremacy Within A Galaxy!

Can a single galaxy support two mid-sized black holes? This one does. This composite image shows the starburst galaxy M82, with two intermediate-sized “survivor” black holes that have managed to avoid falling into the galactic core.

The above image is a composite, consisting of X-ray data from the Chandra Observatory (in blue), optical data from the Hubble Space Telescope in green and orange, and infrared data from the Spitzer Space Telescope in red. Here’s an image of just the X-ray data, showing the two black holes more clearly:
