Verizon is all abuzz about their newest Mobile Virtual Network Operator (MVNO) which they’ve termed “Amp’d”. If the target demographic wasn’t immediately apparent to you right there, the new service for “active youth” will launch third quarter of this year and exclusively use EV-DO phones. All Amp’d phones will feature Push-to-Talk, a memory card slot, a camera and an icon that lights up whenever it senses danger. Or EV-DO coverage. Verizon plans on having three models available at launch, including one from Kyocera and one from Motorola for around $100. The service will offer downloadable music and video clips and allow users to stream live video for special events. Similar to the Sidekick II, all Amp’d data will be backed up to the Amp’d servers allowing purchased content to be downloaded both to the user’s PC and phone. Because if I’m paying $2.00 for Britney’s Toxic video, I’m gonna want to have it in both places at a moment’s notice.
