Party 7 is the touching tale of seven people coming to terms with their pasts, learning to care for their families, and finding out why it’s important to carry on the traditions of voyeuristic superheroes. Captain Banana and the reluctant Captain Yellow, Jr. are heroes who share one mission: To be peeping toms. Their secret lair is a special room in a hotel that lets them watch people doing their private business — and one day, that private business turns out to be some kind of crazy mob operation with stolen money, Yakuza something-or-other, and an otaku with awesome pants. No, really, it doesn’t make a lot more sense than that. Here is a great fight scene, where Banana and Yellow burst in on the mobsters. And just as a special extra treat, here is the fantastic scene where the soon-to-be-Captain Yellow discovers the secret peeping tom lair and meets Captain Banana for the first time. Directed by Katsuhito “Funky Forest” Ishii, Party 7 came out in 2000 and is sort of like an awesomely bizarre precursor to Wanted. Instead of being an office drone who becomes a hero, though, main character Okita is a geeky peeping tom who becomes . . . a superheroic peeping tom!
