What if Pinterest Were in Real Life?

Pinterest takes everything superficial, materialistic, and empty in us, and gives those instincts a safe place to run wild. It's sort of like a swinger's club, only for cupcake lust instead of libido. But what if it existed offline? Homicide.

It makes perfect sense. Find something you like. It's yours. Grab it. Pin it. Covet it. Pinterest takes every notion of private property and sacred personal life and shatters it with a cupcake mallet. What's yours is mine. The social contract is shattered. Possession is the only rule of the land. You pin your neighbor's skull to your door. No copyright infringement there, you bastard. [Comediva]

Will someone please tell me what the appeal of Pinterest is? I'm not on it, but from what I gather, you find things that you are interested in, and 'pin' it to your page? Is that the gist? If so, what is the point?
