With the 50th anniversary of Star Trek this year, there is time to ponder all the things about the show that have managed to last this long. Among them is the design of the U.S.S. Enterprise and why it worked well enough that a big disk with two nacelles is the default look for any Star Trek ship.

The clip below comes from Star Trek: The Original Series – The Roddenberry Vault, a special edition of 12 episodes from the original show along with alternate takes, deleted scenes, deleted dialogue, outtakes, and original visual effects.

The whole package will be available December 13th.
