Two mermaids come onto dry land and join a band that plays in a burlesque club. And that’s just the first 10 minutes of the insanity that is The Lure, the weird Polish fantasy musical which just released a new trailer.

Directed by Agnieszka Smoczynska, The Lure premiered at Sundance last year and hopped around the festival circuit leading up to a limited release February 1. Here’s the new trailer, which is slightly NSFW.

There’s no denying The Lure is unique. I caught it at Fantastic Fest last year and, for the first 45 minutes, was completely entranced. I thought I was potentially watching my favorite movie of the year. But as the film goes along, the story gets incredibly choppy and completely loses all momentum. I left the theater pretty disappointed after the promise of the beginning—but found I was in the minority. Almost everyone at the festival fell head over heels in love with this crazy mermaid musical.

There’s no denying, it’s a fascinating film that’s worth seeing and deciding on for yourself.
