Nintendo's just started shipping out these SNES controllers to their Club Nintendo members in Japan, and great googly moogly are these fantastic. Not only is it a similar greyish color, but the X Y B A face buttons are exactly the same color as before! What better way to play SNES games on the Wii emulator than with an actual SNES controller!
It's too bad that this is only for Club Nintendo members and only for Japan, but you can see more beautiful shots of the gamepad over at Inside Games. If you want to use your original NES or SNES controllers in the Wii, there's also the RetroZone controller adapters for $19 each. [Inside Games]

And then it turns green.
FYI, not official, but you've been able to use actual original controllers (both SNES and NES) with the Wii for quite some time now.

oh wow, maybe I should read more than just the first paragraph...
Those are great! I am in the moving process and was checking out what old game systems I have. I stumbled upon first gen gameboy and nintendo, 2 SNES (with those old school remotes), N64, gamecube, and of course my Wii.
@rbf2000: This one plugs into the Wiimote, not the Wii itself, like the Classic Controller.
Looking at that oldschool controller, my hands just cramped up.
@BloggyMcBlogBlog: The classic controller plugs in the Wiimote. Were you thinking of the GameCube controller?
Club Nintendo ALWAYS gets the coolest shit. Lucky bastards. I would kill for that SNES controller.
@highfloydelity: Oh, duh, nvm. Reading comprehension FTW!
@dead_red_eyes: Then what are you waiting for - get killing. Contrary to the old adage, good things don't come to those who wait.
Actually not all US SNES controllers had the rainbow colored buttons. Mine came with the two shades of purple colored buttons.
I want one :(
@robo:
You're more right than you know.
The Super Famicom controllers had the 4 color design.
The SNES controllers had the two shades of purple buttons. (With the x and y being concave if memory serves me correctly.)
@robo: We didn't have "Super Famicom"s either
Are these supposed to be Wii training wheels for geezers (like me)? It reminds me of those keyboards that went clicky-clacky so old-school typists would feel at home.
Actually it was only the SNES controllers in North America that were in to shades of purple, oh and the console looked different. In Europe the SNES was essentially the Japanese Super Famicom, with a different name.

.
Does this plug into the Wiimote (as a Classic Controller alternative) or does it plug into the GCN ports?
aaaaaand had I bothered clicking on the Inside Games link I would have seen that it clearly plugs into the remote...
Damn you Club Nintendo... Why doesn't the NA nintendo club thing (mynintendo?) have cool stuff like this.
That's ok, I'm sure someone will be ebay'ing these soon enough.
@rbf2000: Hahaha. Shooting your wad too soon, eh?
I got in the preorder for one a NCXS last November and they said it should ship at the end of the Month!
i still have this kind of controller somewhere....
@robo: Ha! You're right! I thought I was losing my mind thinking that my old SNES controllers were colored all this time.
Yeah, I remember that my SNES controllers had (still have) purple buttons, which I appreciate. But I likes these colorful ones too. I want one. Damnit.
That is just too cool. It reminds me of hardcore Nintendo is.
Remember Hori and their "SNES-like" GCN pad? That thing was so badass.
I hates you guys, I don't wanna see shots I want it in my hands.
I still have my SNES somewhere... but I have both types of controllers somehow! One with purple buttons where two of em are concave, and one with colored buttons where they're all convex. Must have taken a random trip to Europe at some point.
I remember bringing a super famicom back home with me when my uncle bought it for me as a gift while visiting Japan.
I was a fool to "sell" it used to Funcoland for $15 or so. Young + Naive is a foolish combination
great googly moogly
Dude, you gotta stop watching Maggie and the Ferocious Beast
