Hidden away in a bland update about terms & conditions, Google’s Android Developer Blog has revealed the next phase in Google’s plans to make Android a little more pleasing to the mass market—direct carrier billing for app purchases made via the Android Market.
The lack of a properly integrated, universal way to buy apps is often a complaint voiced by even the hardest of hardcore Android fans, but it looks like that’s about to be solved, thanks to this little line of text announcing “new payment options”…
In Section 13.1, “authorized carriers” have been added as an indemnified party.
There’s no date offered for the enhancement, but if the Ts&Cs are being prepared hopefully that means it’ll arrive soon—and won’t be held back to be revealed as a “Gingerbread” feature. Currently only Android phones on T-Mobile are able to directly purchase apps. [Android Developers via ITPP]
